In Kochi, the government has directed a compensation of Rs 25,000 as per the state human rights commission's order to Sojish from Nettoor. The order, issued by the additional chief secretary of the home department, states that the compensation will be deducted from the salary of the former SI of Panangad in three equal instalments. Justice JB Kosi, the commission's chairman, had mandated this compensation. Sojish, a member of a scheduled caste, was reportedly assaulted by the former Panangad SI, Vipin AB. The incident involved Sojish being taken into custody by a police team led by the ex-SI without proper authorization, following his admission to a hospital. Sojish lodged a complaint with the commission, prompting the order for a case to be filed against the SI and for compensation to be awarded. A subsequent investigation led to departmental disciplinary action against the SI without any compensation being provided. The government noted that the SI had the opportunity to present a defense before the commission's final decision but failed to do so. Consequently, the government ordered the compensation to be paid to Sojish.
